Recycling Does Matter
The
Solid Waste Management Department recently selected a random residential
area to determine how well Mesa residents use their blue barrels for recycling.
After sorting through more than six tons of trash collected from black trash
barrels, City staff was amazed at how much material was found that actually was recyclable under Mesa's blue barrel program.
Can you guess how much material
was found that could have been recycled in the blue barrel?
A) 10%
B) 15%
C) 20%
D) 25%
E) 30%
If you guessed 25%, you are correct. That means that more than one and
a half tons of recyclable material was found in this sample trash load.
While the bad news is that we are filling up our landfill faster than
necessary, the good news is that we can do a better job at recycling by
educating ourselves on what is recyclable under
Mesa's blue barrel program.
