Parks & Recreation Volunteer Positions
Adaptive
Recreation and Mesa Sports for the disabled
Volunteers are needed for sports and recreation
programs for the physically and developmentally
disabled. Coaches and assistants for
Special Olympics and other programs are
currently needed. These programs are
designed for children and adults, and training
will be provided.Administration
Answering telephones, filing, and data entry.
Aquatic Programs
Guard Start: for 13-16 year olds interested in becoming
lifeguard. Learn the basics of lifeguarding and assist
guards in swim lessons, special events and team programs.
Golden Instructors: Senior citizens willing to work with
young children learning to swim, by assisting guards during
swim lessons.
Recreational teams: help at meets and matches as timers and
event judges, both morning and evening events available.
TLT
(Teen Leadership Training)
Youth volunteers will assist staff in the design and
implementation of the summer recreation program.
Volunteers will participate in swimming and special theme
events as well as crafts, games and sports.
Special
Interest Classes
Assist staff in the set up, implementation and clean up of a
special interest class
Junior
High Sports and Clubs
Volunteers can assist in coaching 7-9th grade sports that
take place after school. In addition, there are
opportunities to be involved in the city wide cross country
and track and field events.
Parks
Maintenance
Assist in maintenance, labor duties, clean-up and planting.
Recreation
Centers
Jefferson Rec Center, Red
Mountain Center, Webster Gym
Mesa's popular recreation centers are always in need of
volunteers to assist in their many programs and activities.
Volunteer assistants are currently needed to help at the Red
Mountain Multigenerational Center (7550 E. Adobe), Webster
Recreation Center (202 N. Sycamore), Jefferson Recreation
Center (120 S. Jefferson) Volunteers can assist in
a variety of recreation programs, including arts and crafts,
sports and games, and special events. These programs
are typically designed for children and families.
Youth Sports
Coaching/officiating score keepers and time keepers
Coaches and officials are needed for Mesa's after-school
sports programs this fall, for both elementary and
junior-high age groups. Sports include flag football,
basketball, wrestling, softball, volleyball, and pom and
cheer. Volunteer coaches and officials must attend an
orientation and sport-specific training.
Youth Programs
Volunteers assist in the set up, implementation and
breakdown of after school recreation programs geared for
students in K-6th grades
Mascot
Volunteer
Volunteers over the age of 14 can get dressed in one of
the many character costumes used for the City of Mesa's
special events. Mascots greet children, pass out
information and create lots of fun and excitement at the
events.
