Help to solve crimes forensically

If you would enjoy processing basic crime and vehicle accident scenes through taking photos and lifting prints, we will train you as a Crime Scene Technician volunteer to support our Forensic Services Unit. Volunteers in this position complete tasks independently in the field, answering calls for service in a variety of weather conditions, while also working closely with Crime Scene Technicians and supervisors. They identify, collect, preserve and package evidence. Volunteers will drive a department vehicle and operate a police radio. In addition to processing basic incidents, they also prepare and submit reports regarding their duties.

Desired Skills: Must successfully complete the Crime Scene Technician Volunteer training program, as well as demonstrate competency in basic photography, latent print processing, DNA swabbing, and evidence handling; must be proficient with basic computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Word and e-mail; must demonstrate solid writing skills; must be able to lift up to 25 pounds; must be able to follow oral and written instructions; must be able to interact professionally with department members and represent the department professionally to the public.

Special Requirement: Must successfully complete an open-book, 25-question test about use of the criminal justice computer in order for you to have access to it; must possess a valid driver's license; must purchase own cargo pants and black work boots, with steel toes recommended.

Hours Needed:  Minimum of four hours per week or two 8-hour shifts per month days, evenings or weekends; must be willing to commit to one year of service in this capacity.
