Mesa Police Department Superstition Patrol District
Community Action Team (CAT)
The
Superstition Community Action Team (CAT) officers pride
themselves in their ability to work with the
community. The goal of the Community Action Team is
for the Mesa Police Department and the citizens of the community to work in
a
partnership with creative means to solve community
problems related to crime, quality of life and
neighborhood conditions. It is also the focus of the
Community Action Team to shift
resources from randomly responding to crime related
calls for service to taking a proactive approach to
address community problems and crime trends.
The officers assigned to the Superstition
District CAT team have
attended specialized training relating to the
methodology of community based policing. The CAT
team works on problems within the Superstition
District that are recurrent and cannot be properly
handled by a patrol officer. These problems include
drug
houses, stolen vehicles, vehicle and residential
burglaries, and nuisance complaints. The CAT
officer will evaluate the problem and attempt to
find a permanent solution. Many resources are
utilized in this process, including involvement
from other City of Mesa departments, other
government agencies, and members of the local
community. Together, we hope to assist in making a
safer and better community.
