Police are requesting the public's assistance in
identifying a male who has been seen wearing a
police uniform and equipment in Mesa. (Click on
photo for larger version.)
On Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at approximately 8:30
a.m., a 38-year-old male was inside his apartment
located at 1800 E. Covina when he heard a knock at
the front door. When he answered the door, he was
met by a white male wearing a police uniform.
Investigation revealed the person was not a police
officer, but an imposter. The imposter asked the
occupant to identify himself. The occupant then
provided his name. Additionally, the police imposter
asked the occupant to verify his wife's name and
continued to tell the occupant that his wife was
involved in a car accident. The imposter police
officer then walked away. The occupant called his
wife shortly after the subject left the area and his
wife told him she was not involved in an accident.
The following description of the male suspect and
vehicle has been provided to police:
A white male appearing to be in his mid-20s
to early 30s, approximately 5' 10" tall, 180
pounds, brown eyes with short black hair. He was
wearing a short-sleeved navy blue police uniform
with a leather gun belt containing a radio,
handgun, ammunition pouches and a can of pepper
spray. The police badge was silver in color.
The male was seen getting into a white Ford
Crown Victoria with a spotlight on the driver's
side door, a red dome light on the dashboard and
tinted windows. The vehicle is possibly a 2001
model or later.
Mesa Police have passed out flyers informing the
surrounding community about the incident. An updated
flyer containing the composite will be
re-distributed to citizens in the surrounding
community.
