Mesa Police Department Cons, Frauds & Scams
Publisher's Clearing House
Publisher's Clearing House is still receiving reports from consumers who have
been contacted by con artists requesting money to collect a non-existent prize.
The consumer receives a call from an attorney or law firm claiming to represent
Publisher's Clearing House. The name most often used has been "Howard
Levy" from "Levy, Goodman and Associates."
Mr. Levy informs the consumer that they have been selected to receive the
second prize in the contest. A follow-up call is made soon after to inform the
consumer that the first prize winner has been disqualified and they are now the
top winner. Mr. Levy then asks the consumer to send money via Western Union or
American Express Money Gram to a bank in Israel, or some other foreign country,
to cover processing fees. The phone numbers provided by Mr. Levy have been from
Canada.
Again, please do not send money for processing fees or custom fees to claim a
prize.
