Mesa Police Department Cons, Frauds & Scams

Charitable Donations

May 2006 - The fire department is warning residents about con artists calling residents pretending to be collecting on behalf of the fire department. As with any other call that you receive asking for money or personal information, please be careful and make sure the caller is legitimate.

We have received concerns from residents about calls they have received about agencies collecting donations for the police department. The Mesa Police Department does not solicit for donations, however the various police lodges across Arizona do have charity drives. They may call you and ask for a pledge. To protect yourself from fraud, never give your credit card number over the telephone. Ask the caller to send you something in the mail and then you will consider a donation. If you have any questions about a charity in Arizona, call the Secretary of State's office to see if the charity is registered.
