Mesa Police Department Evidence Section
RESPONSIBILITY
The
Evidence Section is responsible for maintaining the integrity of evidence and
chain of custody of all property that comes into their possession in accordance
with state laws, city ordinances and departmental policies and procedures.
Under the direction of the Evidence Supervisor, Evidence
personnel are responsible for receiving, storing, releasing and maintaining
security of a wide variety of items. Property received by the Evidence
Section includes but is not limited to cash, jewelry, guns and various weapons,
narcotics, vehicles, bikes, blood samples, urine samples and other evidence
related to assaults, homicides and other crimes.

The Evidence Section is open to the public the following
hours:
Monday - CLOSED
Tuesday thru Friday - 8:30am to 4:30pm

HISTORY
In August of 1996 the Evidence Section moved from a 7,000 square
foot facility, into its new 19,000 square foot facility, including an off-site
vehicle impound facility that can store approximately 95 vehicles.
Construction of a new 1,000 square foot refrigerator/freezer was completed in
June of 2002 and nearly doubled the storage capacity for cold storage items.
Biological items are stored in cold storage for future
Crime
Laboratory analysis.
