SAFE Senior Program
The SAFE Senior Program is coordinated by the Crime Prevention Unit staff.
SAFE stands for Safety, Abuse, and Fraud Education. The purpose of the program
is to educate seniors in Mesa about home and personal safety, elder abuse,
neglect and financial exploitation, and con games and fraud schemes. We offer
presentations on any one of these topics to community organizations, senior
residents, or any other group who is interested. Crime Prevention information is
also available on audiocassettes for visually impaired seniors.
We also offer training for law enforcement personnel on elder abuse.
The Fraud Alert Hotline (480-644-2345) and the
Fraud Alert E-mail List are part of this program and are set up
to inform seniors about current fraud schemes that may affect them.
We are also active in training financial institution personnel on recognizing
the signs of financial exploitation of their senior customers.
If you have any questions, please call or e-mail Crime Prevention Officer
Karen Stegenga at 480-644-5014 or karen.stegenga@Mesaaz.gov.
