Making Waves - Safety Saves

Now is your chance to sponsor Mesa's aquatic programs.

Support your community and be involved in Mesa's drowning prevention efforts.

The "Making Waves"
scholarship program provides FREE learn-to-swim lessons and FREE competitive team membership to Mesa residents in need, all made possible by donations from the community.

Proof of income or federal cash assistance and Mesa residency will be required
for registration and
verification of need.

Become a sponsor of Making Waves. Making Waves is a program where grants and giving are turned into scholarships that pay the way for low-income children and families to register for swimming lessons and team swimming programs provided by the City of Mesa. For more information email Mark Foote at mark.foote@Mesaaz.gov

WHAT YOUR FINANCIAL GENEROSITY PROVIDES:
"Making Waves" scholarships pay the $20 registration fee for swimming lessons, and the $60 registration fee for competitive team membership. Swimming lessons are taught in eight one-half hour lessons during a two-week summer. Competitive teams practice for one hour, four days a week during the eight weeks of June and July.

WHAT WE'VE ACCOMPLISHED

Summer 2008

Total swimming lesson scholarships awarded 980
Total Recreation Teams scholarships awarded 89
Total scholarship dollars used $24,940

Teaching at least 700 swimming lessons each summer for the past four years, the Making Waves program has made a positive impact in the community. Thanks to our generous sponsors, the summer of 2008 was a great success.

OUR MISSION
The mission of the Making Waves program is to play a key role in the reduction of child drowning incidents in Mesa through water safety education and teaching disadvantaged children how to swim.
