Mesa Parks and Recreation staff respond to
citizen suggestion at Greenfield Park
Earlier this year, Mesa
residents Robert and Lois Gallup contacted Mesa
Parks and Recreation to inquire about handicap
access to portions of Greenfield Park.
Mr. Gallup had suffered a stroke in 2006 and
discovered it was difficult to get to portions of
Greenfield Park in a wheelchair. He approached
some City staff members and was directed to Parks
Supervisor Jerry Bradney. They discussed the
need for some additional sidewalk and where it
should be located. About two weeks later, the
sidewalk was completed.
"Today I am proud to say I was able to use it for
the first time and it is wonderful" said Robert
Gallup. "I noticed children, fire fighters and
other elderly people using it. I would like to
thank Parks Supervisor Jerry Bradney and the City of
Mesa Parks Department for a job well done and for
making it much safer for everyone to use the park."
Mr.
Gallup's son, Randy, shared his father's enthusiasm.
"I spoke with my parents and they are thrilled that
you responded and that their efforts have made a
difference for their community."
