2. How often does the Mesa Fire
Department hire?
New stations, planned retirements, the City
budget and the state of the economy are just a few
of the many factors that influence Firefighter
Recruit hiring. Therefore, it is difficult to
predict how often testing will be conducted and how
many Firefighter Recruits will be hired.

3. When will applications be available?
Application Process for Firefighter Recruit
begins September 30th and ends October 5th. Visit
the Hiring Update page to get the
most current information. Applications are
not accepted until a testing process
begins.
You may register to receive e-mail notification of all
City
of Mesa job openings.
4. What are the minimum requirements to apply
for a Firefighter Recruit position?
Applicants must be:
- 18 years of age by closing date
- High school diploma or GED by closing date
- Must have AZ EMT or NR (National Registry) EMT Certification by date of
hire.
Candidates must possess a valid Arizona
Driver's License by hire date. Each
driving
record will be reviewed.
5. Do I have to have a Fire Science degree or
specific certifications to apply?
No,
however, successful completion of Fire Science college coursework, and/or previous
firefighting experience (full-time, part-time, or volunteer) as well as
Firefighter 1 & 2 certified are preferred.

6. Do I have to be an Emergency Medical
Technician (EMT) to apply?
No, you may apply without EMT, but must be certified by date of hire. Visit the Arizona Bureau
of Emergency Medical Services (AZBEMS) web site at http://www.hs.state.az.us/bems/,
or call 1-800-200-8523 to learn more about EMT certification eligibility.

7. I am an out of state EMT, where can I find
information about becoming an Arizona EMT?
The Arizona Bureau
of Emergency Medical Services (AZBEMS) is the regulatory body for EMT
certification. To learn more about EMT certification reciprocity, visit
the AZBEMS web site at http://www.hs.state.az.us/bems/,
or call 1-800-200-8523.
8. Do you accept applications from out of
state candidates?
Yes, you are not required to live in-state to
apply, test or work as a firefighter. All travel expenses are the candidate's responsibility.
9. Can I test if I do not have an Arizona
driver's license?
Yes, however, if selected you must possess a valid Arizona driver's license
by hire date. Visit the Arizona Motor vehicle Division web site
at www.dot.state.az.us/MVD/mvd.htm
to learn about how to secure a Arizona driver's license.
10. If I have tested before, may I review my
test results?
No, because of the number of candidates who take the test and for test
security reasons.

How do I get an application?
Applications will only be available from September 30, 2006 through
October 5, 2006. You may apply online or you may pick up an
application in person at the City of Mesa, Human Resources Division
located at 200 South Center Street, building one (1) in Mesa.
12. What is the deadline to submit the application?
The deadline for the receipt of the application is October 5, 2006 at
5:00pm, Arizona time.

Can I e-mail my application?
Yes, we encourage you to apply online so that we can easily
communicate your status and results. Remember, you may visit
your local library to access the internet and obtain a free e-mail
account.
14. Can I send my application by mail? Can I
have someone else drop it off for me?
Yes, you may mail your application. However, completed
applications must be physically received in Human Resources by
October 5, 2006 at 5:00pm Arizona time and must include an original
signature.

Can I fax my application?
No, you may not fax your application.
