Banner Desert Medical Center, located on the Northwest corner of U.S. 60 and Dobson Rd., is constructing the Banner Children's Hospital.  This will be the most advanced pediatric care unit in the East Valley.

Health care is one of the strongest industries in Mesa comprising nearly 12% of all jobs. Mesa is home to five major medical facilities, more than any other city in the East Valley and second only to Phoenix in the region.

Planned expansions abound
The health care industry has over $1 billion in planned investment in Mesa, including three new hospitals, expansions to existing hospitals, and a new headquarters for Southwest Ambulance. The projects will add over 2,000 new jobs to the community.

The 220 bed Banner Children's Hospital is part of a $320 million project that will also add 15 operating rooms, 28 emergency room beds, and a new parking garage to the Banner Desert Medical Campus. The projected is expected to be completed by the end of 2008.

A Vanguard medical center, yet to be named, is planned for the Arizona Health and Technology Park, which is currently home to the Arizona School of Health Sciences and the Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health. The Vanguard hospital is expected to open in late 2008.

The Mountain Vista Medical Center and two medical office buildings are planned for the corner of Crismon Road and Southern Avenue in East Mesa. The complex is scheduled to open in early 2007.

The planned $90 million expansion at Banner Baywood will add a 7-story tower with 123 beds. Other features will include a 26-bed Intensive Care Unit, 2 additional operating rooms, and expansions of the pharmacy, lab, food services and other departments. The expansions will significantly enhance the medical center's ability to best serve nearby communities.

Southwest Ambulance constructed a new campus in Mesa that includes their national headquarters, an emergency operations center, state-of-the-art training facilities, a supply warehouse, and the fleet-vehicle maintenance building. The new campus is right off the U.S. 60 and a mile and a half from the Loop 101 freeway. The campus was completed in December of 2006.
