Engineering
Park & Ride at U.S. 60 and Power Road
The proposed location for this Park & Ride is
along the north side of the Superstition Highway
(U.S. 60) between Superstition Springs Boulevard and
Power Road in the ADOT right-of-way. The facility
will provide approximately 200 parking spaces, a
frontage road connecting Superstition Springs
Boulevard and Power Road, and a passenger platform.
The City issued a Notice to Proceed for February 20,
2007 and the project is scheduled to be complete in
July 2007.
Environmental Programs
Lead Based Paint
KNK Diversified has completed the stabilization
of the exterior lead based paint at the Escobedo
housing complex. Volunteer painters continue to
paint the exteriors of the stabilized buildings
using recycled paint from the Household Hazardous
Waste program. Environmental Programs will continue
to work with Housing Services to ensure that the
painted surfaces at the complex remain stable.
Falcon Field Airport
Falcon Executive Aviation Lease
After more than two years of negotiations, the
new leases and Fuel Concession Agreement with Falcon
Executive Aviation have been signed. The agreements
went into effect on April 1 and the terms of the
agreement will be in effect for 40 years.
Fire
Fire and Life Safety Education Section-Water
Safety Day
Mesa Fire Department co-hosted the 8th Annual
Phoenix Children’s Hospitals Water Safety Day at
Mesa Community College on March 27, 2007. The focus
of the event was to teach first grade students about
water safety and drowning prevention. This daylong
event brought more than1300 first graders and public
safety agencies from around the valley together to
participate in various hands on activities and
events. Some of the events included swimming
demonstrations, puppet shows, music programs, and a
fire truck/EMS safety talk. The students will
continue learning about water safety in the
classroom through a water safety curriculum that
meets the state standards for AIMS testing.
Neighborhood Services Department
Housing Services
The Section 8 waiting list closed on Jan. 30,
and all pre-applications have been processed. A
total of 1,772 households applied for rental
assistance. This is the largest number of
applications ever received during any previous
Section 8 enrollment process. Wait time normally
ranges from six months to two years.
Historic Preservation
The Office of Historic Preservation met with
Fraser Fields residents in March to update the
residents on the status of the neighborhood’s
National Register nomination. The draft nomination
will be heard before the Historic Preservation
Committee on April 12, 2006 for a recommendation to
the State Historic Preservation Office. Fraser
Fields is one of six local historic districts within
the city. Listing on the National Register brings
not only national recognition, but also the
possibility for financial incentives.
Neighborhood Outreach
Residents of Pioneer Estates II received a $500
PRIDE Grant to host an Easter Egg Hunt and family
activities day for their neighborhood. This 119
single-family home, registered neighborhood is
located in East Mesa, Council District 6.
Solid Waste
Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event
The next event will be held on Saturday, April
21 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Center Street
Facility, 2412 N. Center Street. This free event
allows residents to dispose of their household
hazardous waste material in an environmentally
friendly manner.
