Announcements & What's New

Effective Monday 04/14/08 the new hours of operation for the residential permit counter will be: Monday thru Friday (except holidays) 8:00 am to 4:30 pm and will be closed for lunch from 12:00 pm (noon) to 1:00 pm. These new hours of operation will now match the commercial counter's hours of operation.

Public Meetings

Building Board of Appeals - The next Building Board of Appeals meeting is scheduled September 17, 2008.  Meetings are held in the City Council Chambers (lower level), 57 E. First St. Street at 4:00pm.

Development Advisory Forum - The next Development Advisory Forum is scheduled for Wednesday, October 8, 2008, at 7:30 a.m.  Meetings are held in the City Council Chambers (lower level), 57 E. First St. Street.

Building Safety Division Organization

The Mission
The Building Safety Division partners with our customers to ensure community standards, provides information, and enhances safety as a means to our customers' desired end - the successful development and use of the built environment.

The Vision
We desire to be most effective, efficient, customer-oriented, service-based building safety organization in the southwest.

Functional Areas

Permit Services issues "Construction Permits" for construction on private property and "Right-Of-Way Permits" for the construction or modification of the public infrastructure.

  • The Development Planning group provides preliminary review information for proposed projects. Additional information can be found on their Project Development information page.
     

  • The Development Project Coordination group provides ombudsman service to commercial and industrial projects.

Plan Review reviews construction documents for proposed land development activities to ensure conformance and compliance with the adopted life safety codes, policies, regulations and ordinances.

Building Inspections provides inspection services for new and existing buildings and structures for compliance with adopted life safety codes, policies, regulations and ordinances as well as conformance with the approved plans.

Building Safety Administration encompasses the support function for the division and is comprised of the Building Safety Director, the Administration Support staff, the Finance Group and the Technology Group.
