Planning -
Geographic Information System

Planning-GIS is part of Planning of Development Services. We are located in the Mesa City Plaza Building at 20 E. Main Street on the fourth floor. There are three workgroups within Planning-GIS. The group is led by the GIS Administrator, Hector Tapia.

Land and Utilities Team: The Land and Utilities team is responsible for inputting the City's land base. Subdivision plats are the primary source for the land base data. The land base includes features such as street centerlines, parcels and city limits. These features serve as the basis for other City department's GIS efforts. The Land & Utilities group also inputs all of the City's utility infrastructure from utility as-builts. Data input maps:
  • Conduit
  • Chill Water
  • Land - Subdivision and property information
  • Natural Gas
  • Reclaimed Water
  • Sewer
  • Storm Drain
  • Water

GIS Mapping and Analysis Team: The GIS Mapping and Analysis team is responsible for meeting the City's GIS mapping and analysis business needs. The focus here is on output, whether that be customized mapping projects or citywide distribution of land and utility maps. Mapping assistance for every City department is provided by the team.

Technology Team: The Technology team is responsible for technical issues within Planning-GIS. This includes processing and conversion of GIS data, database issues and technical support within the group.
